| dc.description | The spectrum and the decays of composite weak bosons which are made from spin 1/2 preons confined by a hypercolour gauge interaction are explored. The parameters of the effective potential and the masses of the protons are fixed by the demand that they agree with those of the standard model within the experimental errors. It is shown that the enhancement of decays such as Z to ggg, gqq and l<sup>+</sup>l<sup>-</sup> gamma (where g is gluon, q a quark and l a lepton) could provide a signal of compositeness. However, the Z's decay width into hypergluons (which will then fragment into quarks and leptons) seem almost certain to be so large that such models can already be ruled out. |
