Detection of <sup>8</sup>Be nuclei from the reaction <sup>16</sup>O+<sup>27</sup>Al at 65 MeV

Continuum spectra and the cross section for the production of <sup>8</sup>Be nuclei in the reaction <sup>16</sup>O+<sup>27</sup>Al have been measured at 65 MeV incident energy. The observations show that this channel is kinematically similar to the stable ejectiles, presenting quite a large cross section, about one third of the <sup>12</sup>C ( alpha -transfer) production rate.
