Gamma-ray and charged-particle emission have been studied following the bombardment of 28Si and 32S with 40 MeV 16O ions and of 58Ni with 55 MeV 16O ions. The locus of states populated by particle evaporation and depopulated by gamma emission (entry line) has been studied in the 2p channel for each of these reactions by measuring the mean gamma -ray multiplicity and total proton kinetic energy. The moments of inertia for 46Ti and 72Se are deduced from the slope of the entry line. The data are compared with statistical-model calculations and show good agreement.
