The basic differential problem is set up for the fields produced by a periodic axial beam contained in a duct with resistive walls. The fundamental unknown is the axial component of the electric field. The solution is obtained as a power series in jZ/R<sub>0</sub>, where Z is the surface impedance of the wall. Particular attention is given to beams in circular and rectangular waveguides.
