A calculation of the shunt impedance of a cloverleaf accelerator structure

The field in a single cell of a cloverleaf accelerator structure has been calculated in a two-dimensional approximation by synthesis from the fields produced by line currents inside a metal cylinder. Effective shunt impedances at β = 0.7 fall around 25 MΩ/m for the shapes considered. Cells with wide, short lobes give the best shunt impedance.
