dc.description Investigations have been carried out on the amount of metal transferred when a radioactive metal is slid over the surface of a plastic It is found that in every case metal fragments are transferred to the plastic in amounts that are of the same order of magnitude for the various metals and plastics examined The close similarity of the results with those obtained with sliding metals suggests that, by a process analogous to the welding that occurs between metal surfaces, strong local adhesion occurs when metal and plastic are pressed and slid together
