Measurements of the thermoelectric power and the Peltier, Nernst, Ettingshausen and Righi-Leduc effects are described. It is shown that the behaviour of these effects is in accordance with the expectations of conventional semiconductor theory. The coefficients are also calculated from the known values of the Hall coefficient and conductivity of the specimen and good agreement is obtained between the measured and calculated galvanomagnetic coefficients. From observation of the Peltier effect an estimate of the thermal conductivity is obtained. Comparison of the measured and calculated values of the thermoelectric power enabled the effective mass of carriers in PbSe to be estimated.
