| dc.description | A new tensor invariant is introduced into elasticity, viz. the work done by a system of fixed initial stresses in generating second-order dilatations. The effect of the latter can therefore be systematically accounted for, in a crystal of any symmetry class, when making lattice theory calculations of non-equilibrium elastic constants. Two examples of such calculations are included. |
