An array of flash-tubes has been operated with air shower detectors to study the density spectrum and zenith angle distribution of showers. The density spectrum has been measured with two triggering arrangements. For showers of median size of 2 × 105 particles the differential spectrum can be represented by a power law of exponent -2.61 ± 0.05 and for a median size of 8 × 105 particles the exponent is -3.3 ± 0.3. This result lends support to previous observations of an increase in slope of the size spectrum between 105 and 106 particles. The zenith angle distribution has been measured and found to correspond to a shower attenuation length of 115 ± 14 g cm-2 for showers in the range (1-10) × 105 particles.
