The high-field conductivity of NaCl and KCl single crystals has been measured in the temperature range 50 °C to 250 °C, using linearly rising voltage transients and d.c. The results are analysed on the basis of three models in which the current carriers are identified as electrons in the first two and as ions in the third. The possible application of the various models is discussed.
