It has been suggested by Bogdanova and her colleagues that the threshold structure observed in certain of the electron excitation functions of helium is due to secondary processes and is not characteristic of the electron-helium-atom interaction. Their explanation is shown to be inconsistent with the work of many other authors and an explanation in terms of the effects of space charge in the collision chamber is offered.
