dc.description The rates of growth and collapse of air bubbles in distilled degassed water are studied. Experimental results show that the effective diffusion coefficient for air through the bubble walls is low at very small bubble diameters. These results are interpreted by the organic skin effect, and the physical qualities of this skin surrounding the bubble walls are discussed.
