| dc.description | Measurements are presented of the Townsend ionization coefficients in mercury vapour using a mercury pool cathode under uniform field conditions.The expected high values for the coefficients are obtained (for 80 < E/p<sub>0</sub> < 2500 v cm<sup>-1</sup> torr<sup>-1</sup>) and are compared with previously obtained values. The maximum value for the parameter α/p<sub>0</sub> was 24 cm<sup>-1</sup> torr<sup>-1</sup>. |
