Measurements of the rate of radial flow of several liquids and their binary mixtures over or between various polished surfaces have been correlated with friction results on the same surfaces. The results have been presented in graphical form relating composition of the binary mixture with the properties of friction and spreading. Divergences from the simple mixture law, sml μ similar μ, where sml μ represents the friction calculated from the observed values of the single constituents of the binary mixture and μ the observed friction value are shown together with similar divergence values for spread, sml d similar d, in terms of the size (diameter, radius or their logarithms) of a pool after a period of time.Changes in the molecular association of the liquids on admixture appear to account for the observed behaviours.
