Slow neutron capture gamma rays in the energy region below 1.5 MeV from samarium oxide and gadolinium oxide have been studied, employing a simple technique comprising a 2 curie polonium-beryllium neutron source and a single crystal scintillation spectrometer. The energies of the observed gamma components are estimated and compared with the values obtained by previous authors who have used reactors as the sources of neutrons.
