A sensitive instrument for measuring low light intensities is described. The instrument is basically a stable high-gain current amplifier, using a vacuum photocell as the sensing element and giving full deflection of a standard 1 mA meter for a photocurrent of 5 × 10^-10 A. It is stable and accurate but simple, reliable and relatively inexpensive.
