By coupling a manually operated ultra-violet spectrophotometer to a commercial electronic recorder, considerable time-saving is possible. A device is described, featuring an auxiliary circuit that converts the transmission potentiometer setting into a signal that gives a corresponding deflection to a recorder pen, while a switch roller system, coupled to the recorder chart shaft, causes the paper to travel in discrete steps. In the present work, the device is used in combination with a Unicam SP-500 and a Kipp micrograph BD-2. Such combinations fill up the gap between non-recording spectrophotometers and fully automatic instruments.
