An electronic device for measurement of retention times of effluents on chromatographic columns and of contact times on catalytic beds is described. Two tungsten filaments serve as the sensing elements, of which the first initiates and the second stops the counting in an electronic scaler when a plug of sample flows past them. Essential for the reproducibility of the results is constancy of temperature of the detecting system.
