A description is given of a simple form of gas circulating pump designed so as to avoid risk of contaminating the gas with either oil or air. Motion is imparted to an iron piston by supplying an interrupted current to a solenoid which surrounds the upper part of the pump barrel. The pump has been used for circulating hydrogen at rates up to 30 cubic feet per hour.
