| dc.description | It is possible to adapt some microscope stands of ordinary pattern for the purposes of ultra-violet microscopy by supplementing the ordinary fine adjustment with a suitable means of giving delicate elastic displacements to the stage. This may be accomplished by (a) suitable loading, or (b) a differential spring device. The displacements are calibrated by interference methods. Specimens of photo-micrographs, taken with Watson's "Service" microscope stand thus implemented, illustrate the paper. The angular displacement of the stage need not exceed one minute of arc. |
