dc.description A novel high current lead, utilizing silver-sheathed Bi-2223 tapes, has been developed and tested, which allows addition or removal of individual, vapour cooled tapes, thus adjusting the current capacity and optimizing the heat leak per current. Minimum heat leak is obtained by tapering the lead, using more tapes at the high temperature end. To date, the leads have been tested using applied currents up to 900 A DC. However, they are designed for a current capacity of several kA.
