dc.description Large, single grain Nd-Ba-Cu-O (NdBCO) has been successfully fabricated using a top-seeded melt growth technique under reduced oxygen partial pressure. We report a study of the grain growth rate within the temperature range for which heterogeneous nucleation can be achieved in this system and investigate the variation in size, morphology and spatial distribution of Nd-422 phase inclusions in the Nd-123 matrix with Nd-422 phase inclusion concentration. The influence of Nd-422 phase particles on the growth rate, pores and macrocrack formation is also studied.
