Transport properties of QMG fault current limiting device

In hundreds of ampere class transport currents, the current limiting properties were measured for a resistive QMG fault current limiting device at 87 K. QMG is a high J<sub>c</sub> bulk superconductor. Using the meander-shaped QMG, we assembled the current limiting device, which was comprised of a bypass and field assist mechanisms. The measurements were performed using a single pulse square current. The heterogeneity of the critical current properties of the meander-shaped QMG and current limiting phenomena in the external field were obtained. Furthermore, it was revealed that the field assist mechanism leads to a faster and more homogenous super-normal transition of the meander-shaped QMG.
