The oxygen content and superconductivity of Ca-to-Y substitution in YBa2Cu3Oy was studied. By comparison with that of Pr substituted YBa2Cu3Oy system, it is found that the oxygen content as well as the formal oxidation state of Cu is not a factor directly predominating Tc. The depression of Tc is connected with the reducing of the mobile holes in CuO2 sheets.
