dc.description The authors have studied surface premelting in thin solid argon films adsorbed on a graphite substrate using molecular dynamics simulations. The interaction between the atoms assumes the truncated Lennard-Jones form. They have found that the top layers of the film begin to melt at 0.27 T<sub>t</sub> below the triple-point temperature T<sub>t</sub>, and that the thickness of the quasi-liquid layer grows as the temperature approaches T<sub>t</sub>.
