The authors report direct measurements of the low-temperature transverse magneto resistance in potassium crystals in magnetic fields of up to 6 T using an induced-eddy-current method. No evidence for the presence of open orbits is found. These results disagree with Overhauser's charge-density-wave interpretation of the high-field induced torque in potassium made by Coulter and Datars.
