Rigid-ion potentials have been developed for CaF2, SrF2 and GdF3 which predict properties that agree closely with experimental data and with the results of other polarisable ion models. The method of molecular dynamics has been used to simulate the temperature variation of ionic conductivity in SrF2 and the results are in excellent agreement with experiment. The melting point Tm of the simulated material was 1850+or-50 K (cf Tm (experiment)=1723 K).
