The lineshapes for x-ray or neutron diffraction are derived for ideally twinned structural domains in an approximate but realistic model. Expressions are given for the distortion of the main peaks and for the scattering intensity between them; the latter shows a shallow minimum at the mid-point. Some experimental and fitting procedures for the determination of domain wall widths in diffraction experiments are discussed.
