A superlattice of 2d electrons in the functional quantum Hall effect regime-the effects of tunnelling between different layers

The superlattice of parallel two-dimensional electron layers in a strong perpendicular magnetic field with small tunnelling between the layers is considered. For simple fractional filling factors in each layer the authors propose a new variational ground state. They study the collective excitation spectrum in the single-mode approximation and make a conjecture on the offset of the fractional quantum Hall effect when the tunnelling becomes sufficiently strong.
