The model of plastic phenomena in glasses is developed. Structural defects connected with the molecular states with a double-well potential are introduced. On the basis of this concept it turns out to be possible to explain the characteristic features of the deformation process. The values of the limit of proportionality, yielding limit and angle of propagation of shear bands are estimated for a two-dimensional glass. The results obtained are compared with the experimental data available and considerable agreement is observed.
