Relativistic calculation of conduction-electron g-factors in noble metals

An ab initio fully relativistic approach to the calculation of conduction-electron g-factors in metals is presented. The electron magnetic moment tensor is determined by evaluating the matrix elements of the relativistic magnetic moment operator with the wave functions of the fully relativistic linear muffin-tin orbital LMTO method. Calculations of the g-factors for cyclotron orbits in noble metals using this new approach resolve a long-standing problem in the interpretation of the experimental data.
