An EPR study of a new S-Se defect in NaCl is presented. The paramagnetic centre is formed after appropriate doping and exposure to X-rays at room temperature. By enriching the SSe<sup>-</sup> centre with either <sup>33</sup>S or <sup>77</sup>Se it is shown that the defect involves one S and one Se nucleus. Theoretical expressions for the g and hyperfine tensors are derived and compared to the experimental results.
