dc.description The shell-model strengths of the 3p<sub>1/2</sub>, 3p<sub>3/2</sub>, 2f<sub>5/2</sub>, 2f<sub>7/2</sub>, 1h<sub>9/2</sub> and 1i<sub>13/2</sub> states of <sup>147</sup>Gd have been calculated within the framework of the particle-vibration coupling model. The wavefunctions obtained from the diagonalisation of the Hamiltonian matrices for the 1/2<sup>-</sup>, 3/2<sup>-</sup>, 5/2<sup>-</sup>, 7/2<sup>-</sup>, 9/2<sup>-</sup> and 13/2<sup>+</sup> states are utilised to calculate the electric quadrupole moments, magnetic dipole moments and B(E2) and B(M1) transition rates of the above spin states of <sup>147</sup>Gd. In <sup>205,207</sup>Pb, the neutron hole states have been coupled with the collective vibrational states of <sup>206</sup>Pb and <sup>208</sup>Pb to obtain the entire fragmented pattern of the 1h<sub>11/2</sub> neutron state. The distribution of the 3s<sub>1/2</sub> proton hole states of <sup>205,207</sup>Tl has been obtained within the hole-vibrational coupling model and compared with the recent experimental results.
