dc.description The emission of Z=2 projectile fragments has been studied in <sup>40</sup>Ar-emulsion interactions at high energies ( approximately 1.8A GeV). The angular distributions of relativistic alphas could not be explained by a clean cut participant-spectator model. Therefore it is assumed that alphas were coming from two distinct sources differing drastically in their temperatures. It has been observed that the temperature required to reproduce the peak of the angular distribution is always approximately 10 MeV for different categories of events while the temperature required to reproduce the tail ranges from 50 to 70 MeV. An attempt has been made to prepare samples that are rich in events where the alphas can be ascribed to a hot emission source.
