Recently (de Boer et al., J. Phys. G:Nucl. Phys. vol.14, p.L131, 1988) the result has been published of a search for short-lived particles in the 0+ to 0+ transition of 6.05 MeV in 16O. No electron-positron pairs were observed above the continuum of internal pair creation, and correspondingly an upper limit was deduced for the emission branching-ratio of a possible short-lived elusive particle. However, in the evaluation of this limit the authors neglected to include the angular broadening of an electron-positron peak due to multiple scattering in the target. This correction has now been evaluated, estimating for both bombarding energies the mean-depth of the activity on the basis of cross section data and by computing the corresponding distortion of the electron-positron angular distribution due to the energy-dependent multiple scattering in the target.
