Model of joint possession of quarks by nucleons

The fundamental assumption of the model that in the region of the overlapping wavefunctions of two or more nucleons quarks are indistinguishable, leads to a probability or quantum mode being necessary to treat quark effects in nuclei. That is, in the overlapping region distribution of quarks among, and transfer of quarks between, nucleons are treated in a probabilistic or quantum manner, in which spherical nucleon bags together with their boundary conditions remain unchanged. An application of the model to the average binding energy is given, the result of which is 7-9 MeV for medium and heavy nuclei. An application to the charge form factor of <sup>3</sup>He is also given.
