Two low background counting systems are currently being operated in the Holborn underground laboratory at a depth of 60 mwe. Their main application is the selection of materials which are suitable for use in experiments requiring very low backgrounds. The performance of the two systems is compared and their current sensitivity for measuring potassium, uranium and thorium is discussed.
