dc.description A general Lorentz structure of the confining interaction between a quark and an antiquark is examined by using the linear potential and determined through fitting the experimental meson masses. The Lorentz structure thus determined gives a qq-bar confining potential which contains proper spin-dependent terms. Use of this potential in calculations of meson spectra leads to results which are in good agreement with the observed mass levels of light and heavy quark mesons.
