Fritzsch-like mass matrices with non-zero 22-elements

We have considered Fritzsch-like quark mass matrices with non-zero 22-elements in both the U- and D-sectors in order to accommodate current experimental constraints on m<sub>t</sub><sup>phys</sup> and CKM matrix elements. It is shown that such matrices can accommodate m<sub>t</sub><sup>phys</sup> in the range 90-200 GeV, apart from reproducing mod V<sub>us</sub> mod , mod V<sub>cb</sub> mod and mod V<sub>ub</sub>/V<sub>cb</sub> mod in the range 0.05-0.12, with mod V<sub>ub</sub>/V<sub>cb</sub> mod <or=0.07 when 22-elements is taken to be non-zero only in the U-sector.
