We have developed a new method to determine the gravitational constant. This method severely reduces the sensitivity to the leading sources of error in previous torsion balance measurements: it is mostly free of uncertainties due to anelastic torsion fibre properties. The torsion pendulum mass density distribution does not have to be known accurately. Gravitational effects due to mass distribution changes in the vicinity are reduced. The apparatus is currently under construction. |
