| dc.description | Electron beam ion traps (EBIT) lifetime measurements on forbidden lines in the visible spectrum have reached a precision of only about 5%, whereas some EBIT lifetimes measured on x-ray transitions are good to 0.5% already. Scientific and technical problems encountered when trying to improve on these limits are discussed. |
