In the spectrum of the singly ionized oxygen atom, O II, 44 transitions 4f-5g and 22 transitions 4f-6g have been identified. For the 4f, 5g, and 6g levels the relative position has been derived on the basis of new measurements in the air region. The configurations 2s<sup>2</sup>2p<sup>2</sup>4f and, especially, 2s<sup>2</sup>2p<sup>2</sup>ng are close to pair coupling. Their energy matrices have been applied under different theoretical assumptions.
