The author contends that, from the practical standpoint of quantitative colorimetry, hue and saturation are not the fundamental elements of colour quality but must be regarded merely as derivatives of the trichromatic constitution of the colour. Practical and theoretical reasons are advanced to show that whatever may be the advantage of specifying colour quality by hue and saturation there are grave objections to practical methods of colorimetry involving the direct measurement of saturation. |
