The absorption of γ-radiation in zinc sulphide has been measured by different methods, and in each case its value was found to be approximately the same.No indication was observed of the occurrence of an abnormal absorption when the radioactive salt was mixed with the sulphide.A table has been compiled giving the values of the ratio of the true to the apparent radium content for tubes of different diameters filled with radioactive luminous compound. This table applies to the case of a compound whose apparent density is 2.03 grammes per cubic centimetre.The values of the absorption of γ-radiation from radium have been measured in different salts, particular attention being paid to the barium salts with which radium is often found in combination. |
