▪ Abstract  This chapter reviews the literature concerned with explaining recent political change in Africa. After recounting some of the political transformations on the continent, it explores the economic and political factors most often invoked by scholars to account for these changes. The chapter concludes with a call for more comparative work, as well as more precise measures, models, and tests.
