dc.description Seismic reflection is the preferred technique for subsurface stratigraphic and structural mapping and it is routinely used for hydrocarbon exploration and characterizing the structure of the Earth's upper crust. Because of the time and skill typically required for processing seismic reflection data, the method is underutilized for near-surface applications. Here, a simple seismic reflection processing procedure is introduced that is computationally efficient and simple to apply. The method requires data from an array of geophones and a multiplicity of source location to synthesize the response to a plane wave propagating straight down in variable terrain. The signal processing method is demonstrated through its application to both synthetic and real data with encouraging results.
