| dc.description | AIDS is now a disease primarily of disadvantaged people of color, and a particularly vulnerable group is poor women of color. This article presents a general view of HIV testing from the perspective of the contemporary surveillance and control of urban populations, using a proposed Illinois state neonatal-maternal testing policy targeted at high seroprevalence areas as an example to demonstrate that surveillance and the regulation of women's bodies as an AIDS-control strategy reproduce hegemonic relationships of power. |
