Transfer of agricultural technology is a prerequisite for increasing agricultural productivity in India. There is a well-organized national grid of cooperative agricultural research. Decentralized library and documentation services are attached to agricultural universities and research institutes cater for the needs of teaching, research and extension staff. A network of extension units promotes the adoption of improved technology. Agricultural universities, research institutes, State and Central Governments as well as some voluntary organizations and commercial agencies have devised various ways of disseminating agricultural information, such as operational research projects, national demonstration programmes, the 'lab to land' programme and the training and visit system. The farm information units attached to various institutes and the mass media also play a vital role in improving the transfer of agricultural information in India. |
