The author of Confused Mhlaba, a play in nine scenes, was born in Port Elizabeth in 1952. He matriculated in Transkei and started writing plays while still at school. This is his ninth, and was written in 1973. It was performed in lohannesburg and Soweto the following year, but has since been banned, as has the text of the play, published by Ravan Press in Johannesburg in November 1974.Mhlaba is the sixteen-year-old son of Hlubi Nkululeko, a former political prisoner who spent fifteen years on Robben Island before being released and returning home.We have selected three scenes from the play. |
