The purpose of the research was to assess whether students possess information about gangs that is useful to primary and secondary education providers. Data were collected through 193 questionnaires administered to students in an inner-city high school. A purposive sample of students in a variety of classes (English, history, study hall, vocational education, Honors English, and biology) from Grades 9-12 were surveyed. The sample was representative of the school population in terms of ethnicity, gender, and grade level. Based on the findings, the researcher concluded that the sample had personal knowledge of gangs and gang members and are a viable source of gang data.
